Data on Scientists and what they and the public think of them?

An interesting post from the Pew Research Center for the People & Press. A must read for academics and researchers. Lots of poll results and some commentary.

Nice article! One reason why the public in general may not be aware of the advances made in basic sciences or engineering is that the media rarely interviews scientists from basic sciences or engineering. Scientists in the social sciences, medical sciences, and economics get to speak to the media more frequently because the topics are more attractive for discussion. Also, business schools encourage their faculty to speak to the media. Engineers rarely speak to the media. I am not trying to offer any solution here, of course.

I aggree with a point that people have unrealistic expectations on science. When AI become popular there was a myth that soon people will be enslaved by machines.
